A wheatfield

A police car drives down a road. Lightning strikes and white smoke remains. It lifts, revealing a young woman, wearing a white dress and shawl. She rises. Another bolt, only it's red. A young man in a leather jacket is there. "Elisa?" he asks. "Travis?" she replies. He runs to her. It's been some time since they've seen each other. He's missed her, and she's prayed for this. A police officer nears. They kiss, then a flashlight beam is in their faces. What's going on? He wants their hands up. Travis glares at him, it's none of his business. Back off, the cop says. She tells Travis it will be fine. He knows it will. The cop reaches for his gun, Travis points his arm. Red lightning bolts from his hand, sending the cop flying. Travis looks at his hand in surprise. She's horrified. They approach the cop, see the smoke coming from him. Travis glories in this, holding up his hand. She's upset; she's come to save him. She has; she's freed him. He's got things to do, then he'll return for her. He tries to kiss her, but she turns away. He laughs, blows her a kiss, then vanishes in a red flash.

Angel Island - The Control Room

Alex, Nick and Derek are looking at the large screen, reviewing paranormal events in the morning report. She answers the phone. It's Fr. Peter Tomanski, asking if Derek's heard about the death of a policeman in McCutchen's Field. Alex pulls it up on the screen. The report says he was killed by a random lightning strike. The priest says there wasn't a storm for 300 miles. Alex reads that a witness reported red lightning. Derek asks how Peter knows. A parishioner was a witness. Elisa's in Fr. Tomanski's office. Peter asks if they could come there. Of course, Derek says. After hanging up, Nick asks about Fr. Tomanski. Didn't the Church want to ex-communicate him? Yes, when they learned he was performing exorcisms. Someone's got to do it, Alex says. That's what he thought, and the Vatican agreed to look the other way if he kept a low profile. Derek knows he wouldn't have called unless it was important. Nick volunteers to check out the field..

Chinatown

A man in a leather jacket and bandanna exits a building. Travis comes up behind him. He sees his jacket fits his friend Jimbo nicely, tapping it. Jimbo looks scared, saying it's impossible. Travis pulls him closer. Why, because he died in a fiery car crash? He's looking for the $50 he owes him and why his friend turned him in to the cops. Jimbo swears it was Eddie. Travis saw Eddie, who said it was both of them. Besides, he knows he's lying as his left eye is twitching. Jimbo looks around; this can't be real. Oh, it is, Travis says. Burning to death "sucks," but Jimbo will learn that. He pulls him behind an SUV. We see fire and hear Jimbo scream.

Angel Island - The Front Parlor

Derek examines a plastic bag of ash that Nick found at the field. Nick says it looked like a lightning strike. The ash came from the middle of a scorched circle and smelled like sulfur. Derek gives it to Alex for analysis. Anything in particular that she's looking for? "Fire and brimstone," Nick says. The phone rings. It's Jonathan, their guests have arrived.

The Front Foyer

Fr. Tomanski and Elisa are seated on a bench. He rises as Derek enters and introduces him to Elisa. As they shake hands, Derek has a vision of her and a man in a fiery car crash. She looks at Derek, as does Peter, until he comes out of it. Fr. Tomanski says she came to his church for refuge after her experience. He's told her the Luna Foundation helps those in "extraordinary situations." She thinks she qualifies. Derek is curious.

The Front Parlor

Derek brings Elisa a glass of water. She tells Derek, Alex and Nick that she was in the wheatfield with a man. Their relationship ended "rather abruptly" two years ago. He called her; he was in trouble. She hoped she could help him... She stops, telling Fr. Tomanski that this probably isn't a good idea. He advises her to tell them what she told him. Well, things got out of hand and he killed the officer. Nick says they heard he was killed by lightning. No, he wasn't. What's this man's name? Travis Walker. Derek asks if she knows where Travis is. No, he's vanished. She looked for him all night but couldn't find him.

Angel Island - the next morning

Derek, Nick and Alex enter the control room. Derek doesn't think Elisa is telling the whole truth. He tells them of his vision. Nick tries to make sense of it. They were kissing, along came the cop, so Travis pulled out a flamethrower and fried him? Alex remarks on their "messy relationship." Derek thinks something inexplicable occurred in the field. They should give her another chance to tell the truth. Meanwhile, they'll run a check of her fingerprints from the glass.

The Garden

Fr. Tomanski and Elisa are admiring the roses as Derek approaches. She comments on how peaceful it is. Peter calls it "an island of tranquillity in a world of chaos." Derek says he and his people would like to help. Fr. Tomanski says she can trust them. She knows, but she seems uncertain. Peter takes Derek aside, he's returning to the church to do some research. He presumes Derek is doing the same? Yes, they are.

The Control Room

Nick's scanning the glass. The screen shows several clear prints, and . Alex says she's got two clear ones. The computer starts its search.

The Garden

Derek walks with Elisa. What more can she tell him about Travis? Well, she knew he had a "wild streak" but didn't think he could kill. They have to find him; she's worried he'll do it again and she can't live with that. He questions her "intense responsibility" for Travis. Because she's why he's here. She walks away, with Derek looking after her.

The Control Room

The computer finds a match. Elisa's California driving license appears on screen, then "deceased" appears in big letters across it. Nick says they'd better get Derek.

The Library

Derek reads a newspaper report of the accident to Elisa, as Nick and Alex listen as well. Travis and Elisa were killed when he lost control of their stolen car and crashed into a tree. Derek looks at her, placing the report down. They can't help unless they know the truth. She hesitates, then says the report is right; they were dead, but now they're back. Alex asks what she is now that she's back. Elisa hesitates even longer. She was an angel. And now, Derek asks. She's fallen. Alex asks how she lost "your wings?" She came back on her own. Why did she come down, Nick asks. She says heaven isn't really up. Nick and Alex laugh. She was given "the gift of grace" but rejected serving in heaven to return and be with Travis. She gave up her salvation to help him. He told her it would free him from his torment and he'd learn to walk in the light. Is she saying Travis was in hell? She thought each made their own hell, but she was wrong. She loved him, thought she could help him, but now realizes she's released him to do more evil. She's got to set things right. Doesn't she have any powers? No, she lost them when she left heaven. They must think she's crazy, or why she'd gave up heaven for Travis. She was 21 when she died, starting to appreciate love of her life, her self and for him. Then it was over. As she walked up to this house, she felt they'd understand. She hopes they believe her, and see how dangerous Travis is. She hopes they'll help her.

The Control Room

Nick reports the lab analysis is back on the ash. Alex looks at the screen as Derek enters. He left Elisa in the garden; she's determined to find Travis. Derek wants an update. Alex says there was sulfur and carbon in the ash but no trace elements. It's as if the heat "atomized" it; lightning can't do that. "Hellfire and brimstone," Derek notes. What does Nick think? He's seen strange things in the Legacy, but an angel?

The Garden

Elisa stops to touch a flower. Travis appears. How did he get here? It's "one of the cooler fringe benefits of working for the man." She wants to help him. Then she should have stayed away from the priest. She needed someone to talk to. Well, she's complicated things, and he's got to clean up her mess. What does he mean? Don't worry, he says, caressing her cheek. With a wink and a red flash, he's gone. She calls his name. Derek appears. Travis was there, she says. They have to warn Fr. Tomanski, Travis is going to hurt him. Derek says they'll go back to the house and call him.

St. Stephen's Church

Fr. Tomanski sits in his office, several open books before him. There's a noise. He stands and goes out front. Is someone here? A confessional door closes. He enters to hear their confession. A voice says, "Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned." It's late for confession, the priest tells the man, come back tomorrow. The voice becomes demonic. He knows she came to see him; what did she say? Peter's voice trembles as he tells him to leave. But, he taunts, he hasn't done his penance. Fr. Tomanski backs up in fear. A red glow appears. The priest grabs for the doorknob, but it burns his hand. He screams. A arm comes through the screen and grabs the priest around the neck. He's lifted as he struggles and shouts.

A Hospital

Derek and Elisa walk beside a doctor, with Nick trailing. The doctor reports the priest was brought in about midnight with a severely bruised larynx and third degree burns on his hands and neck. Nick and Derek are  confused. Burns? Yes, they think he was locked in the confessional and set on fire. He'll recover but he'll be there a few days. The doctor shows  them to his room

The priest is unconscious, a nasty burn ring around his lower face as it meets the bandages encircling his neck. Elisa says it's her fault. She went to him for help and Travis did this to him. Derek assures her she's not to blame. She disagrees, she let Travis loose. She has to stop him before he hurts more people. She tells Nick he could be next. They can take care of themselves, he says. They gaze at the priest before Elisa turns away. They still don't understand, she says, her voice cracking. She exits. Derek approaches his friend, then gently takes his bandaged hand in both of his. He has a vision of the priest surrounded by fire; a demonic face appears, with sharp teeth, pointed ears, and black eyes. The demon grabs at the priest... Nick watches Derek come out of it, and they look at each other.

Hospital Chapel

Elisa enters and kneels before a window of Christ on the Cross. She prays, then Travis appears. He hears her prayer. She's angry. Has he come to finish what he's started? The priest will be fine, he says, it looks worse than it is. She hits him, saying he didn't have to hurt the priest. He was just trying to help her. Travis grabs her arms. Yes, help her destroy him. He recalls when she cared more for him than an "old man." She did care, she admits. She still does, he says. He plays with her hair, reminding her when they met, calling her his "angel." Her eyes are closed, lost in memory.

Hospital Corridor

Derek and Nick discuss what to do next. Derek will go to St. Stephen's and tells Nick to find Elisa and bring her back to the Legacy House.

Hospital Chapel

Elisa asks why he keeps hurting innocent people. Innocent? They were getting in their way. The cop was going to shoot him, the priest was a "moment of anger" that he regrets. Think about us, he says, how they were cheated. They had their whole lives before them, but some cruel fate took it away. Now they can be together. They hear Nick calling her. Travis gets angry. Is this another guy trying to help her or tear them apart? She doesn't want anyone hurt so she heads for the door. Travis doesn't want to hurt anyone, but will if he must.

Hospital Corridor

Elisa joins Nick. She was just saying a prayer. Let's get out of here, she says. Nick notices her anxiety. Is she okay? Fine. Where's Derek? He's gone to the church and asked Nick to take her back to the house. They leave, and under the Chapel door a red mist is seen.

St. Stephen's Church

Derek walks to the confessional where police tape cordons it off. He bends underneath it, then examines the confessional. Opening it, he sees the charred wood, then sits where Fr. Tomanski was. His hand touches the burned wood, then he turns to see the hole in the screen that separate the priest from the penitent. Placing his hand over it, he has a vision. He Sees a hand on the knob and hears screaming, a man in the confessional, a hand held up, fire, Fr. Tomanski screaming and holding his hand, an image of Christ on the Cross, a hand coming through the screen, Peter screaming as fire surrounds him... Derek is shaken and tries to catch his breath.

Angel Island - The Front Parlor

Elisa sits on the sofa, drinking tea. She gives it to Alex; she's not a tea drinker. Alex suggests something stronger. As she gets it, she tells Elisa that she's been checking into Travis' background -- armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft auto, suspicion of murder... Alex brings her brandy, saying that's not the type of person you'd find with an angel. Elisa admits "love blinds us to many sins." Alex continues, "and the sinners who commit them." She knows Alex once had to "make that choice" whether to stay with such a man. Too many times, Alex admits. Elisa knows there was a particular one who "left a mark on your soul."  Alex says she was 18 when she moved in with him. Elisa knows the "dull ache" of his love that was "always there." It still is, Alex says. He wanted to take care of her, but she "lost herself" in him so she left. Elisa says she can tell she's still wondering if she made the right decision. Alex nods. Elisa says she thinks she did, or she wouldn't have found her "own way."

The Control Room

Nick looks at a newspaper article on the screen about "a local couple" killed in a police pursuit. Another appears as Elisa enters. How did she get in? She just walked in, was that okay? Nick looks to the entrance, then to her. He's still having trouble believing her, isn't he. Can she blame him? No, if she wasn't "back" she wouldn't believe it herself. What happens now that she's a fallen angel? Will she get another chance? She doesn't know, but the Bible says that "an angel that abandons its responsibilities is locked in the Darkness with everlasting chains till Judgment Day." He asks if the Darkness is Hell. It depends if he believes in a literal Heaven and Hell. Should he? She laughs, saying he's a good man, don't worry about it. He smiles, saying thanks. He'd like to believe she's an angel. Then "stop thinking with your head and start feeling with your heart."

The Front Parlor

Derek enters, removing his jacket. He tells Alex that, based on what he's seen in visions and physical evidence, they're dealing the "essence of pure evil." Nick enters. He's learned two former buddies of Travis' "ratted on him" after he died. Police report that both have turned up dead. Alex guesses they were burned. Yes, and it "wasn't pretty."

An Upstairs Bedroom

Elisa's lying on a bed, tossing in her sleep. Travis appears and she wakes. What's he doing there? He's completed his business. He sits on the bed and she turns away. He lies next to her, stroking her hair, saying it's their time now. He caresses her cheek, then her neck, and she's feeling the joys of the flesh. He tells her it's all he's been thinking about since they returned. He turns her to him and they kiss passionately. They part and he says they can now live the lives taken from them. She says they weren't taken, "we wasted them." Well, it's time they got them back. There's a happy look on her face. She can help him "live in the Light." Sorry, he doesn't want that, he wants things the way they were. She pulls back. He says she didn't seem to mind "before" when they were alive. She gets out of bed, saying he doesn't need her then. He grabs her, pulling her back onto the bed. He needs her more than ever, he says, kissing her neck. Stop it, she says. He does, but she's coming with him so "get used to the idea."

The Front Parlor

Nick will check Travis' "old haunts" but what is he looking for? Derek says if they know what he is, maybe they can find a way to stop him. Alex wonders if Fr. Tomanski can help. Maybe, but Derek isn't sure... They hear Elisa screaming and run out.

An Upstairs Bedroom

Derek, Alex and Nick burst in, Derek in the lead. Travis and Elisa are by the window and he's holding her tightly. She calls Derek's name, who tells Travis to let her go. Travis shows his fangs and a demon face for a minute. He asks Elisa what will it be. Does she want to see her new friends "turned to dust?" She clings to Travis, saying she'll go with him. Don't, Derek says, they can fight him. "No, you can't," she says before they disappear.

St. Stephen's Church - Fr. Tomanski's Office

Nick enters, having had no luck finding them, but expected little when asking in bars for a "dead guy." Alex laughs, checking through a book. Join in, she tells him. Nick grabs one as Derek checks another on the desk. Under some papers he finds an open book. He riffles through it and comes across a picture. He shows it to the others. "That's our boy," Nick says.

A Foggy Street

Travis drags Elisa along. He spots a beautiful red sports car. It brings back great memories, except for hitting the tree. Elisa wonders what she saw in him. A "chance to walk on the wide side," he says. He tries to open the door. "Go to Hell," she says, pulling away. He retorts he had his fill the first time. She whines about what she's done for him, even dying for him. She thought if she loved him enough she could change him. The owner approaches, yelling at them to get away from his car. Travis gets a nasty smile on his face. No, she says, don't. Well, get in the car or watch this guy burn. The owner continues yelling. Now, Travis says. In she goes. The owner starts running to them as Travis gets behind the wheel. One touch of his finger on the ignition starts it. With a squeal of tires, they're off. Travis aims for the owner, now in the middle of the street! He jumps out of the way as his car speeds off.

St. Stephen's Church - Fr. Tomanski's Office

Derek reads how to contain this demon. He must be surrounded by a "sacred circle" made up of "his corporeal being." Nick says Travis' being is walking around. No, that's his demonic form, the real Travis died two years ago. Alex recalls his service was at Hillside Memorial Park. Nick says that's only 5 or 6 blocks away. They head there.

A Foggy Stretch of Road

Travis is thrilled as they tear down the road. Elisa looks frightened and tries to get out. The car swerves as Travis grabs her and pulls her back. She should take care of her life, he laughs, she may not get another. He remembers she used to love driving fast with him, but he could never afford nice cars so he'd "borrow" them. She doesn't want to remember. He recalls one guy who didn't want to "part with his precious Trans Am." It cost him "dearly." Elisa is shocked. He killed someone for their car? He laughs, does it matter now? Let's see what this car can do, he says.

Hillside Memorial Park

Derek and Alex search the names with their flashlights. Derek spots a plaque with "Travis Edward Walker" on it. "Here," he tells Nick, who swings a heavy hammer at it.

A Foggy Stretch of Road

Travis grabs his chest as the car swerves. Elisa hangs on as it continues and Travis moans. What is it?

Hillside Memorial Park

Nick pulls out the urn. As he does, the scene switches back to Travis moaning and the car swerving. As Derek  pours some of Travis' ashes into his hand, Travis and Elisa are screaming, and he loses control of the car.

A Foggy Stretch of Road

The crashed car lies on at an angle. Travis screams Elisa's name. She was thrown from the car and pulls herself to her feet. He can't move, telling her to "get back here." She runs away instead. He yells that there's no place she can run that he won't find her. She looks back, then runs down the road.

Angel Island

Nick drives his Mustang up to the house after picking up Elisa. As they enter, Alex and Derek approach them. Elisa, a blanket around her, apologizes for doing this, but she had no one else to turn to. What happened, Alex asks. Another car accident. Where's Travis, Derek asks. Elisa has no idea. They ran off the road after he had a "seizure or something." Nick notes that Travis didn't like them "invading his space." She says they hurt him badly, but he's still alive. He'll be coming. Alex helps her upstairs as Derek and Nick prepare.

Angel Island -- Later

Travis enters and screams Elisa's name. He bounds up the stairs, still screaming her name. He starts to laugh.

Elisa stands in a room, in a circle of Travis' remains. He enters. So she's decided to come to her senses? Yes, they can spend another 20 years together. He looks down at the circle. He walks around her, laughing. What's this? Derek enters, holding a book and standing between Nick and Alex, who holds Travis' urn. Travis glares at them. Elisa stops him, calling him back to her. Derek taunts, he's "not going to let a little dust stop you?" I'm here, she says. Travis walks to her, standing beside her in the circle. They don't think they're going to stop him, do they? Derek opens the book and begins the incantation. The circle glows red and Travis glares at him. He stretches his arm and sets the book ablaze. Derek drops it as Travis says they're just words. Another sweep of his arm and ashes blow from the circle. It's time to go. He grabs Elisa's arm. Derek steps forward, saying she can fight him. With what, she has no powers. She doesn't need them, "just the strength of your soul." Derek comes closer. Don't listen, Travis warns. Derek tells her that she went to heaven because her "heart is pure."  Don't let Travis become a "burden," let him go. Believe in yourself! He's right, Elisa says, she gave up heaven for him, to save him, she believed he was worth saving. She was wrong. But he loves her. No, he doesn't know what love is. It's time to let go. Travis says she doesn't have the strength. "Leave her," Derek orders. Travis glares as Derek takes a step closer. Travis raises his arm, red lightning hits Derek. Grabbing his throat, he collapses. Time to go, Travis says, before more get  hurt. Nick and Alex kneel to check Derek as Elisa looks horrified. Alex raises his head and whispers, "He's dead." Nick is furious. He stands and steps toward Travis, who taunts, "You want some of this?" Nick utters his famous line, "Bring it on." Elisa's angry, this time he's gone too far. She glows with a white light that makes its way down her body, burning his hand as it reaches it. She steps from the circle, it reforms and red "fire" rises from it. They can't do this to him, Travis screams. Elisa's near Nick, and they watch. He's only getting what he deserves, she says. He screams as he "melts" and disappears. "Goodbye, Travis," she whispers. Nick again kneels at Derek's side. Alex looks up at Elisa. Can she help Derek? She's not sure, but she'll try. She kneels and places her hand over his chest. She moves it in a circle and a white light glows. Nick and Alex exchange looks, hoping for the best. Elisa pulls her hand away, and all wait. "Come on, Derek," Alex whispers, "come on." He opens his eyes and looks into the smiling faces of Nick and Alex. He looks at Elisa, who's also smiling. He sits up slowly, with help from Nick and Alex. Nick says they "lost" him for a moment. It was "strange," Derek says, he could "feel my spirit rising up," as he look up to the ceiling Alex smiles, that's "a good omen of things to come." Nick counters as long as Derek "doesn't step" on anyone's toes "for the next 30-40 years." Derek laughs, "Hopefully, I can manage." They all smile and help him stand as Elisa says, "I think you will."

The Garden

The four of them are walking on a path, with Derek and Elisa in the lead. She's holding a red rose, telling them there's nothing like the smell of a rose "on heaven or earth." What happens to her now? She doesn't know, but doesn't think she can go back. Derek offers a place for her there. Elisa smiles at him; it's "a tempting offer," but she has to find her own way. She thanks Derek, giving him the rose. She smiles at Nick and Alex; she couldn't have done this without them. She says goodbye to Derek and they hug. She walks down the path. They watch her, until a white glow comes from her and wings appear. She turns and smiles at them, then disappears.

Derek holds the rose, looking pensive. We hear his voice-over,:

"She came to Earth, thinking she had fallen. But I believe she was sent here to relearn her lessons about faith and about love." - direct quote from the episode © MGM
